I work with fellow actors every day and 9 out of 10 times when I ask for their website, they don’t have one. IMDB, ActorsAccess, Casting Networks, etc. is great, but I mean an ACTUAL website like “YourName.com”.
YOU ARE A BUSINESS. Even if you start out with only pictures, bio, and links to your social media, MAKE A WEBSITE. Just like we EXPECT businesses to have a website, actors need one too.
HERE’S THE HACK. Google domains currently sells domain names for $12 a year. This means you can buy “YourName.com” and own it for as long as you can pay for it every year. This is ONLY your domain name. Your website is something completely different.
But 1st, BUY YOUR DOMAIN NAME FROM GOOGLE DOMAINS.
There are LOTS of places to make free websites VERY EASILY with a drag & drop setup. Wix & Squarespace are popular but use whatever you want. Once complete, they’ll assign a long URL like yourname.wixsite.com/2719875 or SOMETHING like that. They do this for free accounts. (Also on free accounts, they may show ads for their company).
Once your free site is done, go back to Google domains and select the option to forward your domain name to something else. This is where you plug in the long “yourname.wixsite.com/2719875”. So when people type in “YourName.com” it’ll automatically route them to the free website.
IF YOU CAN AFFORD A PAID SITE THEN GET A PAID SITE! This is just a shortcut if money is tight. Best thing is, once you get a real site, you can still use “YourName.com” and assign it later!
So if you’re an actor that doesn’t have a website, let this be your next goal!
